In the Premier League there are 3 points per win and 1 point for a tie. After 23 matches, Manchester United has 49 points and have lost four games. How many games has to be drawn? I am baffled by this! I can get the answer, but I have to write the algebra to fix. Can you help? 
Wins are worth 3 points, ties (draws) are worth 1 point, and losses are worth zero (0). There have been 23 games played, with four defeats. Let x = the number of victories in 19 games with the points given. Therefore, a 3x (19-x) = 49 (ie, three for the win and 1 draw) 3x + 19 = 49 x-2x = 30 x = 15 = number of wins if point 15 of the 19 award-winning games, the other four are the links.
