Algebra Formulas And Examples
Algebra: How do I remember how to write equation for sloping points. I always forget formulas, etc…?
1. An example question is write an equation that passes through the points (3,0) and (1, -4).
2. Does the graph of the straight line with slope of 4 and y – intercept of1 pass through the points (3, -5)?
* I know the basic formula is to find the answer to B when
m = y2 – y1 / x2 – x1… I forget the meaning to this whole things too. So hard!
y=mx+b; m=slope, b=y-intercept
slope formula: m = y2 – y1 / x2 – x1
to find the equation after the slope:
(y – y1)=m(x – x1) .. you can choose either set of points to plug in
1. m= -4 – 0/1 – 3= -4/-2 = 2
then (y – 0)=2(x – 3)
then y=2x – 6 .. after distributive property
2. equation will look like y=4x + 1,
so, (y – (-5))=4(x – 3)
y + 5=4x -12
-5 -5
then the equation for (3, -5) is y= 4x-17, so no, it does not pass through.
Or you can just look up on a graphing calculator, like I did to verify ^_^
