Algebra Problems With 2 Variables
Algebra 1 subsititution of variables problem?
I have done this problem over and over gain, and come up with the same answer, but do not know if it is correct, or I have overlooked a sign of some sort. Please solve and then state the answer.
a” + ab* – | – ab | + | b* – a*| if 2a + 6 = 10 and b = -3
” stands for 3, or raised to the third
* stands for 2, or raised to the second power
Using “^” to show an exponent is a little clearer, so that’s what I’ll use. * will mean times.
First you have to solve 2a + 6 = 10 for a.
2a + 6 = 10
2a + 6 – 6 = 10 – 6 (subtract 6 from each side)
2a = 4
a = 2 (divide each side by 2)
a^3 + ab^2 – |-ab| + |b^2 – a^2|
2^3 + 2 * -3^2 – | -2 * -3| + |-3^2 – 2^2|
2 * 2 * 2 + 2 * ( -3 * -3 ) – |6| + | (-3 * -3) – ( 2 * 2)
8 + 2 * 9 – 6 + | 9 – 4|
8 + 18 – 6 + 5
