In modern society opportunities are linked to passing educational examinations. Passing an exam becomes an increasingly important and essential means to a better job and improved living standards. My point of view is how to pass that exam. In particular the GED Math Exam.
A certain company authors the GED tests and sell workbooks for them. Get one for the GED Math test. Never take an exam without knowing what is on it! By this I mean the exam’s vocabulary, question types, contents and how the exam is scored.
Building The Toolbox!
The student will be tested on:

numbers integers and decimals
-
addition, multiplication, subtraction and division
-
fractions
-
ratio & proportions
-
algebra up to quadratics
-
exponents and roots
-
equations
-
geometry
-
shapes, area, volume, and perimeter
-
lines, angles, right triangles
-
Graphs & charts
-
probability
The student should know how to do above. If not then learn to! Typically the math test is 50 questions long with each question having 5 answers of which only one is correct. A perfect score would be 800. Most states accept 410 – 450 as a passing score. It does vary by state. You don’t have to answer more than 56% of the exam to get a good score.
Failing is not a problem but quitting is! Don’t quit and your failure will only be temporary. View the exam as stupid. You know you can answer the word problems because you already have. When you can score 450 schedule to take the real examination.
Strategies of test taking such as:

Process of elimination what remains must be true.

Plug in, only one answer will work in the question.

Substitution replace unknown with your own numbers.

Modeling does it need to be bigger or smaller?

Just do it, in other words do what the question say and answer what it asks.
Will take you far on the exams. Take practice GED test questions and those you miss get the answers to and how to answer them (strategy). The main and hated ingredient to your GED Math test success will be hard work doing GED quizzes and questions. Your work means you know the vocabulary, question types, and content you will be tested on.
Having a tutor or mentor is an immense help. A GED class at the local community college or even on line may be all that you require. Each student is different because of background! Choose what works for you.
