Order Of Operations Question?

Ok so im doing a written math paper and i got this question

Explain how the order of operations determines how you evaluate an algebraic expression. Be sure to explain the rules for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and the use of grouping symbols. Use examples to illustrate your points

i dont understand it can someone help me answer this please an thank you

remember the acronym PEMDAS

when faced with an algebraic expression with multiple operations, the rules of mathematics states that the operations must be completed in a specified order, otherwise different answers would be obtained. Operations must be done in this order: parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction For example:

5 + 12 / 3

if the division is done first (as required by Order of Operations), the answer is 9
if the addition is done first (incorrect) the answer is 5.67

Now try this one: (22 + 50) – 4 * 8 / 2

Following PEMDAS
Parentheses: no operation in this equation
Exponents: no operation in this equation
Multiplication: 4*8= 32, equation now becomes (22 + 50) – 32 / 2
Division: 32/2=16, equation now becomes (22 + 50) – 16
Addition: 22+50=72, equation now becomes 72-16
Subtraction: 72-16 = 56

Follow the same pattern no matter how complicated your equation. Do all the parentheses first, then the exponents, then the multiplication, etc.

Good luck with your paper.
