Can someone explain graphing y-intercept to me?

part of a review on my homework….we already learned this. and i didnt know it then…help!
the equation:
4x + 4y = -2
its really confusing. i dont get how to turn it into the y = mx + b form. i know that the ‘b’ is the y-intercept, and the ‘m’ is the slope. im really confused, and everyone else knew what they were doing, and by the i time i figured out that i didnt get it at all, they had moved on to the lesson, and i had to start taking notes. my textbook has told me what i know above ^^^ and i dont get anything else.
i didnt dothe homework, so im turning it in late. this is the only question im having trouble with. and my is my worst subject. im in pre-algebra, 8th grade. if you know any tricks, tell me!

You start by isolating the y, you do this by either adding it to the other side or subtract the things on it’s side to the other side. (don’t have a negative y)
So for your question you’d subtract the 4x to get 4y= -4x – 2. Then divide the equation by 4 so you’d get y= -x – (1/2).

So, if you have a positive number that you want to move, subtract it from both sides. So it’s no longer on the side it was before(becuase a number subtracted itself will be zero), and it’s subtracted from the other side. You add negative numbers much the same way. Make sense?

You’re gonna want to know how to do this, as it’s pretty basic and you’ll be expected to know how. Try and ask one of your friends or the teacher to explain it to you in person.
