Pre Algebra Word Problems
Need help understanding a word algebra problem-Pre …?
I am studying a book review of algebra before starting university, and I found the following word problem: "If the sum of three times a number and 2 times a number is 60, find the number." I know the answer is 12 because there is a key, but I'm trying to figure out how to do to get this response. Thanks!
Let x be the unknown number. Three times that number is 3X. Twice that number is 2x The sum is 3x + 2x + 2x = 60 3x 5x = 60 x = 60 / 5 x = 12
