Systems of linear equation Algebra Help?
Need some help with this problem.
This is systems of linear equations.
Solve for x.
(1/2)x+(2/3)y=-27/2
3x-y=9
I. (1/2)x + (2/3)y = -27/2
II. 3x – y = 9
multiply equation I by 2, to give the x term a coefficient of 1:
I. x + (4/3)y = -27
now multiply equation I. by -3, then add it to equation II. This eliminates all the x terms.
I. -3x – 4y = 81
II. 3x – y = 9
————————–
– 5y = 90
y = -18
x = -3
